5 CE - Advanced Kinesiology is a comprehensive continuing education series designed to deepen the massage therapist’s understanding and practical application of functional anatomy, muscle movement, assessment, range of motion, and palpation. The series is divided into six 5-hour modules that progress through major regions of the body.

Students will learn to apply origin, insertion, action, and innervation concepts to identify and assess individual muscles. Through guided movement assessment and palpation, students will learn to locate specific bony landmarks, follow muscle trails, recognize muscle shape and fiber direction, and use active contraction to confirm the structure being palpated. Emphasis is placed on developing a systematic, hands-on approach that connects anatomical knowledge to observable movement and palpable tissue response.

The series is designed to move students beyond memorizing muscle charts and toward understanding how muscles move, how to assess their function, and how to confidently locate them in the body.

1. Identify major muscles using anatomical landmarks, origin, insertion, and location.
2. Explain the relationship between muscle structure, fiber direction, and movement.
3. Perform active range-of-motion assessments to evaluate specific muscle actions.
4. Locate and palpate muscles using accurate bony landmarks and anatomical trails.
5. Recognize muscle shape, architecture, fiber direction, and tissue response during palpation.
6. Use specific movements and contractions to confirm individual muscles.
7. Differentiate muscles with similar locations or actions using assessment and palpation findings.
8. Integrate OIA, ROM, assessment, palpation, and contraction findings into a systematic clinical approach.
9. Apply kinesiology principles to improve anatomical accuracy and clinical decision-making during massage therapy sessions.
